Crown reduction and tree shaping is an important part of tree care and maintenance, which  is under taken to reduce tree height or the spread of the crown by carrying out the removal of the branch ends, but still maintaining the tree’s natural shape where practical.

When trees have out grown their surroundings, blocking light, interfering with cables then a crown reduction will be required.

Crown Lifting involves removing lower branches in order to provide increased clearance from the ground or nearby buildings to the tree crown

By carrying out crown lifting it will also have the effect of increasing light into the surrounding area underneath / around the tree

Pollarding is carried out primarily to maintain trees at a predetermined height, smaller than a tree would grow naturally. This is often carried out in order to prevent a tree from outgrowing its natural space and should be done when a tree has reached its selected , desired height. (Pollarding is not suitable for all trees and requires individual inspection and assessment for suitability)

Pollarding can also slow root growth and can prevent sub level damage. Once a tree has been pollarded it will need to be maintained on a regular basis.

A tree stump can be removed using a stump grinder, a machine which will grind down a stump below ground level (typically 10-12 inches). Once removed the hole can then be covered suitable soil. Should the tree stump be infected, then it is advisable to ensure that the surrounding soil and chipping’s from grinding are removed and replaced with clean soil.
